THE CHEMICAL ENGINEERS' RESOURCE PAGE
EMAIL ARCHIVE MESSAGE 030

I am heading into chiropractic school in September, but I need an interesting chemistry paper for an inorganic chemical class that I'm in.  Any cool ideas?  I don't know much about chemical engineering or it's applications or impact in my everyday life, but I know there has to be some.  If you have anything interesting that I might be able to explore I would appreciate your response.

Here's an idea.   A very popular inorganic chemical is Titanium Dioxide (TiO2).  It's a very versatile pigment that is used to color just about anything white.  It is used in everything from paint to chewing gum to give a white appearance.  Some large producers are Kemira, Kerr-McGee, and Millenium.  Look into it...you may find it interesting.  If you'd like to find out more about the production processes, you can do a patent search.  There are two main methods of production, one is a sulfur method and the other is called the chloride method.
