Technical Information about DesignEx

DesignEx uses 8 standard TEMA tubesheet layouts and widely accepted heat transfer and pressure drop correlatoins for it's calculations.  The physical properties for your system should be taken at the average temperature of your fluid.  For viscosity values, you should use a viscosity that reflects the type of the design you'd like to achieve, aggressive or conservative.  DesignEx does contain a physical properties database with minimal default values.  You can easily add your own fluids for future reference.
For systems with phase change, DesignEx assumes pure vapor condensation or vaporization.  The program uses a zoned analysis (see Design Consideration for Shell and Tube Exchangers) for its calculations.  The pressure drop associated with a phase change is disregarded, as in most cases.
