time drainage vertical tank

MS Excel spreadsheet for estimating the time for partial and complete draining of an atmospheric storage tank (vertical cylindrical) containing a non-boiling or sub-cooled liquid and also the liquid inventory left in the tank after a certain period of time. This is only applicable to vertical cylindrical tanks and not for horizontal or tanks with dished ends.

Hello Ankur

Thanks for sharing this information.

Hello Ankur

Thanks for sharing this information.

I have a question - How did you incorporate friction factor (f) in the calculation of mass flow relating to pressure difference.

In the excel file, I think you have used f = 1, what is the assumption behind this ?

I would be thankful if you can answer my questions

Best

Abhishek

Abhishek,

Have you read the "Theory & Equations" worksheet of the excel workbook. Equation 2.194 has no Friction factor term in determining the mass flow which ahs been used in the "Liquid Outflow Calcs" worksheet. Hope this answers your query.

Regards,

Ankur
