can any1 help me out with the Approx. value of superficial Velocity for gases/vapours coming out of a bnatch reactor!

Hi Himanshug,
You have to more specific: (1) Specify the dimensions of the reactor; (2) What are the reactants and products; (3) Is there an inert sweep gas ? and (4)What is the temperature or is it non-isothermal.
Superficial velocity is a volumetric flow divided by the cross sectional area. Thus this term is independent of the volume effect of the internals which makes the actual velocity higher.
It would be also good to know what you need the superficial velocity for...

Hi eman3001,
Suppose a batch reactor of 7kl is being full with Toluene. The reactor is heated by applying steam in the jacket of the vessel. itz obvious the vapour will start to come out at itz boiling point i.e. 110 degree C. what would be the vapour column diameter mounted above the batch reactor?
Well does it that what substance is present in a Batch reactor or i mean to say do superficial velocity of vapour depend on the substance, when it is isothermally heated at itz boiling...

I have made some notes on the vaporization of toluene. The column diameter of the pipe can be made from guidelines in literature such as Chemical Engineering Design Vol. 6 by R. K. Sinnot.
I hope this helps.
