Dear All,

I have motor driven compressor which cannot start from the settle out conditions because the motor is not designed for. Is it possible to open the suction shutdown valve to allow the pressure to reduce to the normal suction pressure before start-up?

Your input is highly appreciated.

babox75,

I don't see how your query is related to "Relief Devices" but you have still posted it in the Relief device forum. Would you kindly consider posting it in the rigth forum.

Regards,
Ankur.

hi,

For the situation as you have mentioned, it is common to have a depressurising provision with the compressor loop (at the compressor discharge).
You can definitely utilise the suction shutdown valve (to open), provided the suction system has provision to depressurise the compressor loop pressure from settle out pressure to near suction pressure.
Provision of suction throttle valve, very close to the compressor inlet flange, can also be thought about.

regards,
Arap

Depressurizing,in the above system, would normally be done through BDV on compressor discharge line.SDV'S already have been closed in order to isolation of the compressor.
