Dear guys,

I am trying to calculate the pressurize time for a 2 phase flowline 16" - 15 Km from Well Head Platform to Central Platform. For my scenarios, Inlet pressure is 15 barg, outlet required pressure is about 9 barg. How can I calculate the time to build up pressure from 0 barg (empty) to 9barg when I open the export riser (assumed opening time is about 20 seconds).

Flow rate: Gas ~ 30 mmscfd, Oil ~ 10 000 bbld.

Please advise me! Thanks

I calculate approx. 20 mins to pressure up the pipeline to 9 barg with 30 MMScfd of gas flowing into it. See attached rough caclulation, I have just used the ideal gas law to determine the mass of gas that you need to put into the flowline to pressurise up to 9 barg. I had to assume a gas molecular weight and temperature for the pipeline. I also ignored the liquid flow into the line, the liquid will take up volume in the line and reduce the amount of gas requied to pressuirse the line to 9 barg, but I have neglected this for simplicity and I don't think it would have too much effect on the end result.

Many thanks Daryon,

It is very intersting. We also ignored the pressure drop wthru this pipeline.
