Hello all,

I need a bit of advice/suggestion for one of my best friends please.

He is currently working for an EPCM company [especially in fine/specialty chemicals sectors i.e. non-oil & gas] in the UK as a process engineer [senior level].

As we all know oil & gas /petrochemicals markets pay well [especially to contractors] and everybody wants to work for them so he is. However, he does not have experience in oil & gas. He is good at all design stages i.e. concept, FEED, detail design etc. but it’s hard to convince oil & gas bosses.

Now, he has accepted the situation,  he would like to work as a contractor in other industries after say 2yrs in a chemical or water industry based on two good offers he got on the table.

Role 1 : Engineering Manager - It is in the Global polymer additives manufacturing company which has many onsite ongoing capital projects e.g. tank farm extension/replacement, Demin plant, ammonia storage tank replacement etc.

Role 2 : Principal Engineer - It is in the Local water supply company. This company has few billions pounds to spend [as advised by regulatory body] for replacing/maintaining existing clean water and waste water plants.

Which one do you think would be more rewarding in near future?

Thank you in advance.

PS: Agree it depends on interest etc but this is purely based on market demand and reward etc.
