Can you direct me to good source where we can find reputed Chem. magazines. I have heard that there are some Magazines which send to the reader free of charge. I need that kind of source where online subscription is available.

I search web but I found services but they send their magazines only in US, Canada and EU ... etc.

Look for PTQ and Hydrocarbon Processing. I know for sure they will send you printed copies anywhere out in the world, if you satisfy their criteria - mostly related to your engineering background, type of company at which you work, etc.

Best regards,

Thushara:

I think that you are not being very descriptive in your query, so I’ll volunteer a guess at what you mean to say:

When you say you are seeking “reputed Chem. Magazines”, I think you have in mind publications such as:
  • Hydrocarbon Processing;
  • Chemical Engineering Progress; and,
  • Chemical Engineering Magazine.

Am I correct?

And when you put the condition that these magazines should be “send to the reader free of charge”, you mean that you are looking for FREE chemical engineering magazines sent to you in Sri Lanka – for which you will not even pay the postage.

Am I correct here also?

I have to advise you that while there are free publications mailed out within the USA and possibly Canada, the above listed magazines are NOT FREE. In fact, they are very expensive. Additionally Chemical Engineering Progress requires membership in the AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers) - which is even MORE EXPENSIVE (& a big reason why I no longer am a member). But the magazines that are free are made possible by the advertisers who have hopes of reaching potential clients or customers within the processing market place. Unless Sri Lanka buys sufficient processing equipment and you happen to be an engineer within an operating company that is a potential client, there is little or no chance that you will qualify for this type of free magazine distribution. I believe you are a student, so that makes it almost impossible. There is nothing really “free” in life. Everything carries an ultimate price.

However, if you are a Chemical engineering student at the University of Peradeniya and registered within the School of Engineering, then your university technical library probably subscribes to the leading chemical engineering magazines and you would have ready access to them there. Your tuition probably pays for such student services.

I commend you for taking a resourceful attitude in seeking out the latest engineering information and technical articles. I wish all students would act similarly in agressively seeking more engineering information than just what their universities dole out. You can never learn enough - and the sooner you start to digest the real and empirical "know how" of Chemical Engineering, the better and more effective professional engineer you will be.

I wish I had a better answer to your quest for free engineering magazines, but facts are facts. However, don't give up on demanding more current, state-of-the-art engienering information from your university. I think they owe it to you.
