Hi everybody,

Anyone has an idea how to calculate the coking temperature for the hydrocarbon gas? I need your assistance ASAP.

Thanks in advance

Dear
What is significance of coking of Hydrocarbon Gas (?). Are you looking for the cracking/coking temeprature of the crude oil.

Anyone has an idea how to calculate the coking temperature for the hydrocarbon gas?

W. L. Nelson (Petroleum Refinery Engineering, 4th ed, 1958) gives info on the matter of coking.
Concerning hydrocarbons heated in tubes:
-coking is encountered for temperatures above 820 0F = 438 0C (p. 687)
-coking results from cracking process, if residence time is (too) long (p. 679)
-cracking normally occurs above 680 0F = 360 0C (p. 663); yet extent of cracking between 680-820 0F is small(p. 674).
-operating pressure has some influence on cracking (p. 676), no info detected for coking.
-coking increases in two phase flows of hydrocarbons, unless whole fluid is almost homogeneous -i.e. high velocity or pressure>350 psig (p. 665)
-Among propane, butane, gasoline, crude oil, undergone cracking at 800 0C, crude oil creates much more coke (p. 714).

Systematic method of calculating coking temperature was not found.

Answer would be more specific and probably easier, if question were specific (conditions of hydrocarbon gas, composition, purpose).
