What is the difference between a Digital Control Valve (DCV) and say a normal control valve (CV) which may be a globe valve with diaphragm actuator.

I dare say that there is not a clearcut between the two nowadays, as the Web indicates. Digital control valves (DCVs) can be those used for unloading / loading trucks or ships, often having dedicated control system (e.g. in a form of PLC) to create low flow at start / end, but high flow intermediately. Moreover CVs called DCVs can be used in process applications, just like the control valves. Both are pneumatically operated and electrically actuated, I think.
It seems that a CV of sophisticated controls can be DCV, like those used for ships / trucks or connected to scada or used in a complicated application. Other members may have a clearer view on this matter.
I am thinking that in the age of no electronic control there was no DCVs, and then DCVs were probably those valves accepting electronic signals from CCS, or (later) DCS. Today this occurs to almost all CVs.
