Dear All,

I have a question about how to consider multiple inlet nozzles (for amine) of amine contactor in Hysys?

As we know that multiple nozzles are provided in amine contactor in cases of high CO2 gases to give maximum CO2 slippage and this method of increasing slippage actually works by varying number of stages.

The only way to consider multiple nozzles in Hysys is to vary the number of stages. But when I reduce the number of stages, instead of increasing, CO2 slippage decreases. Even if I decrease number of stages from a total of 20 to a minimum of 1, CO2 slippage continue decreasing.

Can anybody tell me how to consider multiple nozzles in Hysys?

I think you have to attack the problem considering that the process on how amine solutions work is dictated by kinetics.

I think you have to consider the residence time as well. In hysys, you can fix that by manipulating the tray properties.

You are absolutely right. Fixing the component efficiency of H2S and CO2 works good and CO2 slippage increases as expected.
But I am not sure that fixing the component efficiencies is a good practice because if we don’t fix component efficiencies, they keep on changing with variation in number of stages.
Have you any experience of working with fixed component efficiency while number of stages being changed?
