dear,
i have tried to simulate butadiene extraction unit using NMP as a solvent , simulation have partly converged but still having problems. can anybody guided for the problems.here i have attached .hsc file.
pl.see it and guide me.

your hysys version is build 7119 and mine 7020
can you convert it to an older than 7020 ?

Here's what you need to do:

- Stream 46 (Recycle) must be pre-defined (make the initial estimate);
- Stream 2 needs to be a Recycle stream;
- Stream 15 needs to be a Recycle stream;
- Stream 17 needs to be a Recycle stream;
- Stream 24 needs to be a Recycle stream;
- Stream 29 should be a Recycle stream;
- Stream 37 needs to be a Recycle stream;
- Stream 41 needs to be a Recycle stream;
- Stream 50 must be defined;
- Stream 51 must be defined;
- All process heaters/coolers must have assigned duty and pressure drop, or supply pressure/temperature values for the outlet streams;
- Each tee needs to have specified the flow split ratio.

For loading Hysys cases into older versions of software, one can save the simulation case as an XML file which can be used by previous versions.

1,3 Butadiene extraction by NMP solvent is an extractive distillation process and any activity coefficient model in Hysys will not have the effective binary interaction parameters which can support this simulation. I have almost broken my head to converge (it converges very fast) to match the licensor material balance. Hope to get the some positive updates from your side.

how many years do you have experience in BD plant?

Hi,
I'm up to start exactly the same process (BASF License) simulation. The work starts tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes. It will be in AspenPlus V7.2, but converting it into Hysys won't be a big deal,

yes i have 20 years experience in BD plant. yes we can share on it.if there is possibility to get converge it.

sir,
i have converge my acetylene washer column for NMP losses in Wash water separately with thermodynamic model NRTL-SRK , give little bit closer result with my current process perameter. but i have yet difficulty to achieve full simulation.if there is a possibility to complete work with another simulation like CHEMCAD or ASPEN PLUS or PROii then pl.guide me.

Dear Ashkan1360,
I simulated this unit for a student who was supposed to submit her report on sensitivity analysis of Butadiene Extraction unit, may be 2 years back. And now I am working on detailed engineering of the same unit. But I don't have any operational experience of this unit. I remember some correspondences with Aspen Tech regarding this simulation two years back and based on that only I can help you, if you come up with specific query.

Hi Sir,

I'm a chemical engineering student doing a project to design a plant for butadiene extraction from mixed C4 product with NMP solution. Currectly assigned to perform material balance and hysys simulations. I have tried performing material balance and hysys simulations for many days already but still clueless on how to start and what to do. Thus, search online for help. Would you please be so kind to send me the material balance and hysys file you have done with other gentlemen before? Here is the information given to me:

Mixed C4 Feed:
Flow Rate = 12.05 tonnes/hour
Operating Hour = 8300/year
Composition (Wt%)
Methyl Acetylene = 0.4
Propadiene = 0.1
Propane = 0.1
1,3 Butadiene = 46.5
Ethyl Acetylene = 0.1
Vinyl Acetylene = 0.4
1-Butene = 11.0
Cis-2 Butene = 4.1
Trans-2 Butene = 5.4
Iso-Butene = 30.1
Iso-Butane = 0.6
N-Butane = 0.6
Iso-Pentane = 0.6

I would be so real glad and grateful to receive your reply. Any help from anyone is deeply appreciated. Thank you.
