Hi, everybody, i just used a AFT FATHOM software for a cooing water network where there was a cooling tower at 11 ms higher than the UNIT.i maintained the CW pumps at same elevation of 11 metres and fitted the pumpp curve and then the discharge of pump with a annubar is supply header of cooling water where i diverged all the cooling water exchangers of the UNIT as per the layout for all the exchaners i fitted the resistance curve of flow vs pressure drop and the inlet and outlet elevation of exchangers i also defined all the inlet and outlet pipes of exchangersas per the software .after running the AFT in the output file for the heat exchangers summary i saw inlet pressure of a exchanger as X kg/cm2g and outlet as Y kg/cm2g.with X >Y with the exchanger at a height of 40metres.i wnt to know whether Cooling water will reach the exchanger while maintaing the required pressure drop in overall circuit.do help me out.

pinu,
I don't know anything about AFT FATHOM software, but software is not necessary to design your cooling water circuit. Can you draw a diagram, showing the components in the circuit and the elevations, and send it in? Mark the pressures where they are known. This will help us to advise you.
It is not clear whether you are designing a new system, where you can allocate the pressure drops for the piping and the exchangers, or, whether you are trying to analyse the performance of an existing system.
It is also likely that the cooling water return from the circuiut, that is, the inlet to the tower, will be several meters higner than the pump suction.

If your cooling tower is at 11 m height above ground and the exchangers is at 40 m above the ground, the elevation difference is 29 m.
What is your pump capacity and head ?
Your pump head should be greater than 29 m (elevation) + Loss due to friction in pipe lines + Loss due to fittingings in the pipe line to get the flow at 40 m height.
Submit your system in excel file along with known pressure details and with pump capacity for solving.

Hi ,
A good drawing will save thousand of words .( Xcel or PID)
Again , is it a new design or existing equipment ? What about the pump performance?acility ?
We are happy to help
