I want to ask, is it common to rent a gas booster compressor ? (Centrifugal, turbine driven, 150 MMSCFD, HP = 6000, P Suct=400 psig, P Disch.=1000 psig).

We want to rent this compressor to avoid Take Or Pay in our Gas Pipeline system, because our Gas Compressor (we purchase this) might be 1-2 years late.

I've heard about gas compressor's Rental but I don't know if the capacity is big enough to handle our gas.

Thx.

raxza:

It sounds like you're caught between a rock and a hard place. If you can find a reliable compressor owner who will lease you the compressor & driver for the job specified, then you've solved 75% of the problem, in my opinion.

What I would preferably do is negotiate with the compressor/driver owner and strike a contracted agreement based on his supply of the compressor, driver, installation (& future dismantling), and the operation of the equipment for the duration required until your purchased unit is installed and up and running. I would not try to train my operators to operate, maintain, and take care of his unit. This is full of liability problems and I would prefer to contract him to supply the compression needed and have him guarantee that he can do the job - safely and correctly. That way, the care of the equipment and the capacity of the same are his responsibility - not yours. Try to pass on this liability and responsibility to others where you can. You are already in deep pooh-pooh as it is; you don't need more liabilities and problems, trying to operate other people's property.
