I want to install a gas compressor package. I already have Suction scrubber (with demister) and a strainer upstream the compressor (in the suction line).
I want to ask if these equipment can handle solid particles that may be contained in the gas (dust/debris or particles from corroded pipe), is it necessary to have an individual filter or can I install filter separator instead of scrubber to handle this solid particle.
Thanks.

Dear Raxza,
Your query is very general. It all depends on the type of gas, what particulate it contains, what is the type of compressor in use, if the metallurgy of the piping and the compressor are compatable etc. In any case wet gas containing carryover droplets are not desirable at the compressor inlet as it forms a coating on the valves of a reciprocating machine. Thus a suitable filter after the scrubber is required. A candle filter made of compatable fabric is suitable. The allowable pressure drop will depend on the available pressure. However, it would be around 100mmwc. Maintain a seal pot for free draining of droplets from the fabric filter. Use a suspended candle with flow from outside to inside, so that the droplets collect at the outer casing and get drained.
