Hi all. I am designing liquid-seal drum, which will be working with cold blowdown (client say even -100°C). I want use water or glycol or glycol with water as a liquid-seal. Steam tracing will be use. I would like to ask, if there are any other liquids, which may be use as a liquid seal in these conditions? I am to fear that hydrocarbons will dissolve and mixing with glycol.
The other topic is, if the liquid-seal will be blow out from the drum to flare in case of a huge amount of blowdown from process unit? I am almost sure it will be, but how can I prove that?

You could use brine but water-glycol mixtures are commonly used in water seal drums where the flare stream is a cold hydrocarbon stream. The liquid stream from the water seal drum will anyway require to be treated before disposal.
The seal leg height is designed to prevent any liquid blowout during the maximum relief rate through through the flare.
