The number of children suffering from autism is increasing rapidly at an alarming rate. Comparing the statistics in the 1980s the number is 4 among 10000 children increased to one in every 60 children now a days. To fight this lethal disease researchers and scientists are trying to get to the root cause, however there are two schools of thoughts there. One is the gene and another is the environmental factors.

Current breakthroughs actually show us there lies a genetic factor in most autism cases if not every time, environmental factors are acting as a triggering factor. However some doctors claimed having an exposure to toxins, chemicals and environmental hazards can eventually lead to autism.

On a more specific note some doctors actually pointed to the role of vaccinations one of the sole cause of autism, Some even referred to the raw data where it clearly show how the number of autism is significantly lower in unvaccinated kids. But not everyone share the same opinion, so the debate continues.

Now a days many autism treatment centers are incorporating serious use of Bentonite Clay in their treatment process. Studies show that Bentonite Clay baths are really playing a key role in the process of recovery. This whole process is dependent on the Bentonite Clay’s unique ability to remove toxins and other harmful materials

Interesting news on bentonite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bentonite). Detoxifying role of it can be expected, as it is a useful absorber, yet the article indicates it does not practically absorb useful elements of the body (at least in appreciable quantities). In Greece (and probably elsewhere) there are few "soil slurry bath" centers. Having seen them operating in TV, I understand the mentioned slurry is a form of clay. Usually old people go there for baths, saying they are curing and refreshing. Most probably no scientific medical research has based it (yet).
I do not know whether clays / bentonite can offer (apart from absorbing toxins) useful salts to the body, as therapeutic springs do.
