Montazer,

Spillback control is generally used in reciprocating compressors for small capacities. Art Montemayor one of the administrators of Chereosurces has provided an excellent overview on spillback control and I am reproducing verbatim what he wrote:

By far the cheapest (lowest Capital cost), easiest, quickest, and simplest method to control a reciprocating compressor's capacity output is the use of a recycle control valve to return discharge gas back to the compressor's suction. HOWEVER, this method is also the most inefficient and costliest power consumer method. All power used to compress the recycled gas is totally wasted. This one negative feature makes this method one to be used only in very small applications and in situations where no other method is either available or desirable.

Hope thiis helps.

Regards,
Ankur.
