System is, two products shall be transported in common pipeline. Sizing is done based on sum of the both fluid flow rates and keeping velocity as a limiting factor. Now issue is how to find out the optimum no of batches? Storage capacity at the delivery shall be optimum inline with no. of batches. Pl help me in this regard.

Additional input:
length of the pipeline: 120 km
dia of pipe: 26 inch
HSD: 5.8 MMTPA & ATF 5.4 MMTPA to be transported through above mentioned common line.
velocity limit 1.75 m/s
pump station at source to boost the fluid to the end point with min of 5 barg pressure.
HSD density: 846 kg/m3
ATF density: 826 kg/m3.

how to find out the optimum no. of batches to keep min interface quantity per anum and to keep optimum capacity of receipt tanks?

Appreciate your valuble suggistions....

sunkara,

Product Batching in pipelines is a subject in itself. Normally batching studies are done using a pipeline simulator such as PIPESIM (Schlumberger) or PIPEPHASE (ScimSi-Esscor) where the effect of product mixing after a given sequence of batches is studied.

Some basic information on batching of products is available at:

http://www.pdhengine... Hydraulics.pdf

A batch sequencing for refined products are also given at the following links:

http://www.pipeline1...ports/Notes.pdf

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ankur.
