Dear All,
I am working in a company dealing with air separation plant.
Here we work with many consultants with different standards.
I see that insulation standard (thickness and material) varies from one consultant to other.
General materials I have went through for hot insulations are mineral wool and rock wool.
For dual temperature insulation i see some consultant mentiioning " higher of the thickness in cold and hot insulation to be followed"--NOw this statement if analysed leads to the conclusion while folllowing the thicknesses, the cold insulation thickness will always be the choice.
For cold insulation generally it is mentioned that two insulation material are used -cellular glass and PUF.
I want to know what are the advantages of PUF and cellular glass.
I have compared the thicknesses of the materials -PUF definitely gives lower thickness, easier availability, low cost.
But some of the leading engineering company abhors PUF due to its combustibility and sweating charecterstics.
I would like to know the disadvantages of PUF to be used as cold insulation??
and also the fundamental behind using " higher of the thickness in cold and hot insulation to be followed" for dual temperature insulation.
Regards,
Supriyo

Dear Supriyo
i see a air separation unit insulation data a few days ago, there was perlite in the inter space (between to wall of vessel)
& also the inter space was vacuum.
can you help me in this topic:

i need to know insulation calculation for a propylene spherical tank in -46c.
