Dear all,
I'm looking for information related to packed column minimum turndown capacity and its relation to packing pressure drop.

Does anybody know how low flood approach can be considered as minimum possible turndown capabilties?
What if pressure drop acros packing is low (below 4.16 mm H2O/M) ? Does stabile operation of this column is possible or maybe with such a low pressure drop it is point below minimum turndown?

I will apreciate any help.

I'm not sure if you are considering minimum gas flow or minimum liquid flow or perhaps both.
Anyway my thoughts are:
  • For low gas flow the column will be stable hydraulically. Mass transfer no worse, perhaps improved.
  • For low liquid flow the column will be stable hydraulically but mass transfer efficiency will drop off.
  • For both low gas and liquid flows, the column will be stable hydraulically but mass transfer efficiency may drop off.
  • At high liquid flow the column is likely to be unstable hydraulically especially as flooding point in approached or exceeded. Mass transfer efficiency may drop off.
