Dear all,

I am currently doing a glycol dehydration unit hysys simulation and i got stuck in trying to work out the output flow of glycol contactor in hysys. It says that the 2 liquid phase exists and i have checked the degree of freedom and stuffs, so i am wondering if i lack any information to the column. I have attached the hysys simulation file.

My design glycol contactor is as follows:
Inlet flow (mol%)
methane 64.5
Ethane 22.0
water 3.5
n-butane 10.0
Temp 100F
Pressure 80 Psig
S.G 0.8
Gas flow 13 MMSCFD

Requirement
Outlet gas water content 7 lb water/MMSCF

Design
no. of tray 5
packing Mellapak 250.Y (approx. 0.3-1.0 mbar/tray)

If i lack any information, please inform me, thanks.

P.S: i cant seem to upload hysys files so i have created mediafire link

Your problem is that liquid butane is condensing in the column. This is why the solver is reporting two liquid phases in the column - and it can't handle that. You need to remove any liquid hydrocarbon from the inlet gas, and the glycol must be at least 15°F above the inlet gas temperature to ensure you don't drop out anymore liquid hydrocarbon in the absorber.
