I want to buy the compressed air pressure regulator for the diaphragm pump and not sure which one to buy.
Just to give the background to the process for which we want to use this diaphragm pump and the regulator.
We have process slurry [density of slurry in the range of 2000 to 3000 kg/m3] in a conical vessel which we need to transfer [transfer line is 1.5” polypropylene , 10m long from pump discharge] and filter through filterpress.
We have 1” pump [see attached and highlighted 1” bolted plastic pump] and ¼” air pressure regulator from [see attached]. As you might have guess, we are OK at the beginning of the transfer process. However, once the cake builds up in the filter press, it generates the back pressure of about 6barg and we are really struggling to transfer the slurry at this stage and I am struggling to find the real cause – the reason is supplier[filter press supplier] has suggested to use this 1” pump as well as ¼” regulator.
Now, as both items were recommended by supplier of filterpress, we did not cross checked whether the regulator will be able provide required air flowrate at specific outlet pressure [set pressure – in our case it is 6barg]. Now we are struggling to pump as the air flowrate drops right down as it the filter backpressure reaches close to 6barg, I am trying to find what is the bottleneck i.e. whether it is pump or regulator or both.
Personally, I am thinking both are smaller than what they should be. However, to validate I needed some info/data from regulator supplier and they have sent me standard info and curves etc and I am struggling how to read the graph for the regulator.
On page 2 of the pressure regulator brochure, there are two graphs – one for inlet pressure 7barg and second one for 10barg inlet pressure – We do have only 7barg air available onsite.
On the pump leaflet, I have indicated the operating point and it seems for the inlet pressure of 7barg and back pressure of 6barg, if we want to achieve the flowrate of about 25litre/min [i.e. 1.5m3/hr], we need compressed air flowrate of 15SCFM. However, I have no idea if the air regulator is capable of doing this.
Does anybody know how to read the air pressure regulator chart? OR does anybody have the spread sheet for the air pressure regulator?
It would be great is someone please help me as we need to make purchase decision on air regulator or pump or both on a very urgent basis.
Thanks very much in advance.
Regards,
KS
NOTE: The page#1 of air regulator brochure shows that the air regulator will do 80SCFM at air inlet pressure of 10barg and set pressure of 6.3barg . While I need air flowrate at different set pressure when air inlet pressure is 7barg.
