Hello,

A journalist friend of mine is currently writing an article regarding SmartPlant 3d and the variety of programs available for use of plant design in the oil and gas industry.

My question is: what simulator do you use and how does it compare to Smartplant 3D?
What are the pro's and con's of your preferred software?

Any insight is helpful,thank you!

I take it you are meaning Smartplant 3D the piping design suite (+P&ID and materials etc)
We primarily used PDS which is bundled in with Smartplant, but we are starting to use PDMS for some jobs... will ask the pipers what the P & C's.

Typically it all depends what other suite of information management software is used, Avea is the overarching owner of PDMS and it pulls data into its database for its other services.

Will try and get some further information

sealittle,

As process engineers, SmartPlant® P&ID is the CAD tool which is preferred for preparation of P&IDs. In fact, for all upcoming refineries the technology licensors such as UOP, Conoco Philips, Chevron etc. now mandate that P&IDs be smart. The inherent advantages of smart P&IDs to name a few are:

1. Equiment List Extraction with details such as Capacity, Trim, Driver Rating
2. Line List Extraction
3. Valve List Extraction including size and type
4. Instrument List Extraction including type
5. Piping Items List Extraction
6. Error messages for incompatible valves, line sizes and MOC

List extraction is at the click of a button on a completed P&ID.

Regards,
Ankur.
