Hello dear all,

I am currently work with Gas Plant model in Hysys. On my plant there is Amine treatment unit includes - Amine contactor and Amine regenerator equipments. Now I need to make a model of my Gas plant with Amine treatment unit as well.
I'll describe my issue shortly:
I used PR package for my Gas plant simulation. I've found that PR is not for Amine process so I've made a Sub-Flowsheet operation and added Amine unit in this template. I've got only Aspen Hysys V7.3 license and I cann't use Amine Pkg. Tell me please is any another Fluid Package available for CO2 removal process? Will my results in this case (with another Fluid Package not Amine Pkg) more or less accuracy? Many thanks for help

Regards,
Dmitry

Amine pkg is a non-equilibrium model based on work of Kent-Eisenberg /Li-Mather specially designed for H2S/CO2 removal systems using amines. No other package is capable to do this.

Hello, on Aspen site I found next:

PRSV model includes typical amine components and could be used for your amines system but the reactions/interactions between the amine/H2S and CO2 would not be accounted for.

The amines package available in HYSYS is based on the thermodynamic models developed by D.B.Robinson & Associates for reliable amine plant simulation. This specialty package is supported by extensive experimental data. Therefore, you are highly recommended to use this package for simulating the processes of sour gas sweetening using amines.

As a more generalized equation of state model, the PRSV package is applicable to a variety types of systems. But, for an amine system involving complex physical/chemical processes, this model will likely not represent its true behavior as accurately as the specialty Amines package.

So PRSV can be use but results will be not correct?

Hi,
There are two thermos available within Hysys for Amine Sweetening unit, one is Hysys Amine Pkg and DBR Amine Pkg. DBR Amine Pkg needs additional license to use it but Hysys Amine Pkg doesn't need additional license. Make sure you select amine pkg and not DBR amine pkg. Hysys Amine with MEA and DEA works fine, results with MDEA are not accurate. I recommend to use Optimized Gas Treating Inc. Pro-Treat software which is rate based simulator widely used for gas sweetening with MDEA.

Hello,

I got information from AspenTech regarding my issue:

If you have Amine component in the system then the recommended property package is Amine pkg or DBR amine pkg. You should have license to use them. PRSV model, which is modified PR, includes typical amine components and could be used for amines system but the reactions/interactions between the amine/H2S and CO2 would not be accounted for.

The amines package available in HYSYS is based on the thermodynamic models developed by D.B.Robinson & Associates for reliable amine plant simulation. As a more generalized equation of state model, the PRSV package is applicable to a variety types of systems. But, for an amine system involving complex physical/chemical processes, this model will likely not represent its true behavior as accurately as the specialty Amines package.

From v 7.0 on, Aspen properties database is provided within Hysys. Under that, Electrolyte NRTL allows you to include amine components so you can also try that as an alternative.

So as I understood I can try to use PR as general Pkg and Electrolyte NRTL in Amine template?

Hello,

I've got 30 days free Amine licence and I've started to make a model of existing Amine contactor with MDEA in Aspen Amines . Please tell me general limits as required inlet gas temperature, MDEA required min and max temperatures. Also I am looking information how to reduce CO2 concentration in gas outlet streem. Should I just increase flow of MDEA or manipulate with his temperature, or with water content in MDEA solution. Please any information will be required. Many thanks

Hi Dmitry.
Which kind of amine plant do you have? Is it for removal of CO2 only?
MDEA is known as the worst amine (tertiary amine) to remove CO2. A different thing is an activated MDEA, but you'll not find its proprietary data in the simulator.
