Tungsten is a metallic chemical element classified among the transition metals of the periodic table of elements. In continental Europe, the chemical is often referred to by the alternative name of wolfram. That's why its chemical symbol is W and not T or Tu. It has the highest melting point and lowest vapor pressure of all metals. It also has excellent corrosion resistance and is not attacked easily by most mineral acids, so it is used a lot for glass-to-metal seals.

When we think of its uses, the light bulb may cone to mind first. How about its other potential applications?

By the way, my boss asked me to write an article less than 400 words about tungsten hexacarbonyl, but I don't have any ideas about it. Anyone could help me?What aspects should I write? :(

It is interesting to read the story of incandescent light bulbs in http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Light_bulb '> http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Light_bulb , and the increased efficiency (lumen/watt) of the new ones. Even halogen bulbs have tungsten filament, "evaporated" at a lower rate.
http://en.wikipedia....en_hexacarbonyl '> http://en.wikipedia....en_hexacarbonyl , http://www.sigmaaldr...ng=en&region=GR '> http://www.sigmaaldr...ng=en&region=GR , http://www.sciencedi...040609000009433 '> http://www.sciencedi...040609000009433 , other data from web search engines, can give you material for W(CO)6. Industrial preparation and mainly uses would be the matter I would point out.

Tungsten is used significantly in spacecraft and satellites, due to the low vapour pressure at elevated temperature - in space the pressure is very low and temperatures due to radiation can be very high. use of other metals results in severe metal loss as the material sublimes into space.

Tungsten is also used in some alloys.
