I have been put in charge of arranging a maintenance program for a tank farm of about 30 tanks up to 60,000 litres. The tanks store waste oil for processing and storage (some are lagged as the oil is heated to separate oil & water)

We need to do in house ultra sound testing as part of the program but can find no guidance / usable forms to say where to take the reading. I would be looking for a number of reading per metre of the tank circumfrence and at what height to take them (internal tank)

Any ideas around this would be welcome. Does anybody have an electronic guidance they could post?

Thanks

Since no response has been received so far, I dare note something not based on experience.
1. Several hundred spot measurements per tank are needed, covering all tank area. Walls near bottom, where water could be, need special care (so more detailed measurements). http://www.eci-ndt.c...nk-testing.html '> http://www.eci-ndt.c...nk-testing.html .
2. More information can be traced in the web, e.g. by googling " ultrasonic tank testing" or similar. Nevertheless have also a look at http://nuiverificati...tial-oil-tanks/ '> http://nuiverificati...tial-oil-tanks/ .
3. Concerning soda and other chemical tanks, we checked weldings by X rays, these were the most sensible part. I do not know whether weldings can be checked by ultrasounds too.
4. Opinion of an experienced member would give more precise information.
