Hi All,

Can you please clarify the following points:
  • Is the difference between control & choke valves. I believe difference is purely on pressure rating (i.e Control valves are available upto 2500 class whereas choke valves are available upto 4500 class or API 10000 or 15000).
  • Internals(trims), I believe, mostly Ceramic or tungsten carbide are offered by both kind of valves. So there is no big difference here.
  • Valve design : I think both (Control & Choke) offer angle and globe designs, but predominantly angle is preferred for HP or well heads.
  • Control valve vendors offers multi step angle valves for HP applications(like Emerson's Notchflo/DST,Dresser Lincoln log etc, but choke valve manufacturers offer various cage designs to labynith trims (like CCI drag or Severn Glocon's MLT).

Is there any other major difference I should consider while selecting a choke valve.

Thanks
Iyer
