Dear all,
I am designing a cryogenic air separation unit for my final year design project. As we are using the Linde double column concept, I am required to design the high pressure column as part of my major design. Could anybody help me with any resources which can help me design the high pressure column, i.e. what type of column (tray/packed), specifications, calculations etc. There is limited number of journals online as well as on engineering databases in my university library, thus it will be great if i could have some guidance on how I could go about designing the HP column. Thank you in advance.
Kind regards
Rashed

My recommendations to you would be:
My recommendations to you would be:
- Keep it simple – just like Carl von Linde did. Use bubble cap trays and straight segmental downcomers;
- Use the McCabe-Thiele method to determine the ideal theoretical number of stages, your feed tray and your reboil heat requirement.
- You should have or own a copy of Randall F. Barron’s book, “Cryogenic Systems”, and probably some of his other publications that show you how an air separation plant is designed.
- Obtain a Mollier Diagram for air as well as an equilibrium diagram to do the McCabe-Thiele procedure.
