Hello

I designing a pipeline for internal pressure, which code shall I use, B 31.8, B 31.3 or B31.4?
It is an oil-gas pipeline, located onshore, for a gathering system (of some km long). I get different values for wall thicknes depending on the code.

Another thing: it will be a buried line.

Thank you

Hi Butterfly.
About your question, you will review the:
“Piping and Pipeline Engineering Design, Construction, Maintenance, Integrity, and Repair” by George A. Antaki. Copyright © 2003 by Marcel Dekker, Inc.
And in the chapter 13 Subsea Pipelines, you find:

“13.3 INTERNAL PRESSURE
The selection of wall thickness, given the maximum pressure and temperature, and the pipe material specification and grade, follows the rules of ASME B31.4 for liquid pipelines and ASME B31.8 for gas or two-phase (liquid-gas) pipelines, and is covered in Chapter 4.”

And for "Buried pipelines" you will find in the Chapter 14. the same book.

Good luck.
