Hello all,

I'm currently trying to size an adsorption column for my design project. In one of the references I looked up (http://www.wbdg.org/...dg_1110_1_2.pdf), they had the hyrdaulic loading rate as one of their design parameters. To my understanding the HRT is the design capacity(flow) divided by an area. My question is what is this area? Is it the total surface area on the polymeric resin that I will be using or is the the cross sectional area of the resin bed? The resin I use has a surface area of 1100 m2/g which is very large and will give me a very small HRT if I use it ( well below the usual 80-240 gpm/ft2 ).

The contaminants that will be adsorbed are: phenol, benzene and PAHs.

Regards
Blok
