Hello,

I have some questions on the field of EPC.

Firstly, I would like to know if the involvement of a Process Engineer on an EPC project stops to the Engineering phase?
On the other hand I find that EPC companies sometimes wins for example FEED contract only. Does this mean that the next phases of the project (Detail Engineering, Procurement, Construction ...) will be assigned to another company EPC ?

Thank you in advance for your clarification.

After the Engineering phase, the Process Engineer will/could be involved in some Construction, Commissioning and Start-up activities; for example:
- FAT & SAT for the instrumentation/logics;
- Loop check;
- Loading of Catalysts;
- Operators' training;
- Commissioning of utilities and raw materials;
- Test-run.

For the 2nd question the answer is yes. Generally speaking, the FEED company will/could act as PMC in the EPC phase.

Thanks for your answers gegio1960.

- FAT & SAT for the instrumentation/logics;
- Loop check;
- Loading of Catalysts;
- Operators' training;
- Commissioning of utilities and raw materials;
- Test-run.

Ok, these activities are related to the Commissioning and Start-up phase, so could you please give us more details on the role of a Process Engineer during the Construction phase...

For the 2nd question the answer is yes. Generally speaking, the FEED company will/could act as PMC in the EPC phase.

After taking a look to the definition of PMC (The contractor that manage the project for the Project Owner in his name) I want to know if Is it possible to the FEED company that act as a PCM to grant himself the Procurement and construction phase of the project?
I find sometimes on articles that the Feed company are asked to prepare the corresponding engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) proposal. In this case what can be the reasons that lead the owner to doesn't offer immediately and EPC contract to the FEED Company ?

Thanks.

It may be possible that the FEED company doesn't have the enough resources to execute detailed engineering (due to manpower) or do procurement/construction work (due FEED company lack of presence in site due to proximity).

But I'd say that for the most part, EPC firms are cheaper than companies that do the FEED work, especially for LSTK projects.

It's always the bottom line that dictates the strategy in giving out the work to contractors.

OK, thanks.
How about the career evolution of a fresh process engineer on an EPC company ?
Does he must spend time working on conceptual design for different projects before being involved on FEED and Detailed Engineering phase projet?
