I am working on designing a nitric acid absorber. In order to have better absorption, there are cooling coils between trays (the absorber is designed with sieve tray) since the reaction of NO with water to form nitric acid is exothermic. I am trying to figure out how to calculate number of cooling coils needed. Can anyone shed some light onto this problem?

You have been assigned a difficult task. We practicing engineers would use a special software model for this. Good luck.
