Hello,

We have a 32" pipe sch 40 API 5L pipe which requires a 24" length to be be removed.

The specification BS EN 13480 part 4 (fabrication and inspection) states:

"Flame cutting shall be permitted for material groups 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 only with preheating as for welding"

What is the reason for the preheating and also, what method of preheating is used?

The pipework is also epoxy coated so I would think we need to remove this locally. Once the section of pipe is removed, the remaining lower portion of the pipeline will be taken away from site and have a PN16 slip-on boss flange welded on. For this, I expect the pipeline flame-cut end to be suitably prepared by bevelling. Is the bevelling done by machine or by grinding tool?

Regards

John
