Dear All,

await guidance from everyone. Related topics have been posted before and there are rich discussion threads from Mr. Ankur, Mr. Art, Mr. Fallah, Mr. Joewong and many other veterans.

This pipeline is designed for 98 barg and so are all ancillary equipment and piping. During pre-commissioning and commissioning stages there is an option to dry and interise pipeline system by application of vacuum.

The pipeline and all the valves on the pipeline are designed for vacuum condition. However, launcher/receiver and equipment like feed filter separator, check meter and custody meters are not so. When asked, consultant says that valves will be isolating these filtration and metering systems (isolation or rather administrative procedures are not idiot-proof) and as vacuum drying is an option only and is done only during commissioning which is once in quite a few years' period they have not been considered for vacuum design.

Practically, the rating of the enitre system is 600# and the vacuum sustenance may not be a problem. But what if the system would have been at 150# (a hypothetical case)? Thus, should not the vacuum design be specified as one of the design requirement for the filter separator and other systems where it is not mentioned.

In case of piping, I found recommendations in the forum that the piping and instruments connected to a equipment- which-may-see-vacuum-accientally should also be designed for the same condition. But to what length of the piping should it extend to?

Regards

Avijit
