The flash point of the lube oil in my solar centrifugal compressor is getting to 40 degree C. (mnormally 200+ deg C)

It's obviously contaminated with either gas or condensate and I will look into the seals  to check the source.Has anyone experienced this because I'm thinking it may only occur when I shut down and the unit remains pressurised so the seals may pass when its stationary.

My question though is does anyone have a table with % hydrocarbon in lube oil/flash point plotted ?

Hi,

Not able understand what is mean by flash point coming down due to ingress of gas or condensate. If you are monitoring the flash point of Lube oil through an online flash point analyzer, can you share the method it uses or equations. Something very interesting to know the reason of reduction in flash point from 200 deg c to 40 deg C.

The flash point of the lube oil is dropping from 200C to 40C and I suspect the reason is contamination with gas/condensate through the bearing seals.

In other words I have a flammable fluid dissolved in my lube oil which is depressing the flash point

Not an online analyser routine sample taken routinely and analysed in lab.

My question was has anyone else had this problem and what action was taken and is there a table of % dissolved gas in lube oil / flash point where 0% would be 200 C
