We have to design a system for flushing the contents of a pump suction header back to its source tanks with compressed air. The line is 14" in size and is about 200 m long. Considering the liquid hold up in the tank and the pressure drop across the 200 m line, 3 kg/cm2g pressure will be sufficient to move the liquid. But, the problem is How to arrive at the compressed air throughput required to flush the contents of the pipe? Is is equal to the hold up in the pipeline + tank? Please help me.
