Hello,

I am currently working with aerial coolers (air cooled heat exchangers) and I am looking for spreadsheet for aerial coolers performance evaluation to be able to compare operating conditions to design conditions. We have aerial coolers that cool the produced vapour from 143C to 45C (Pressure- 310/286 kPag in/out). These are forced draft aerial coolers with plug box header and L-footed aluminum fins. We have 2 bays and manually adjustable pitch fan. We also have closed and locked louvres with over side recirculation. Any ideas on performance evaluation of these coolers will be highly appreciated.

Hi,

I will suggest to use XACE module of HTRI. This will help you to evaluate the current performance of Air Cooler. Specify the heat release for process side and design Air flow (you can manipulate this flow based on your fan curves or variation in air flow Vs fan blade pitch i.e. the current actual air flow), leaving outlet conditions for HTRI to predict. Compare the HTRI estimated process side outlet temperature with plant measured value; if mismatch then  tune your fouling factors to have a close match.

Please ensure correctness of process and air side data inputs. Mainly current air inlet temperature, humidity and air flow based on the current position of fan blade pitch angle.
