I am a recent chemical engineering graduate and I was going through the flow meters , specifically through the full bore meters, I have a doubt, while studying venturimeters and orificemeters and going through their working principle, construction and other stuff, I found out that for same conditions that is same pipe to throat diameter or same pipe to orifice plate diameter, flowrate measured by orificemeter is 2.58 times more?. Is it true , well I mean so we have two different flow meters working on essentially the same principle and giving different flowrates for the same fluid under similar conditions.!

Q= C*E*A*(2/Ro*(P1-P2)^.5

 

with C =discharge coefficient ;E= 1/(1-beta^4)^.5 and beta= d2/d1 

 

C=#0.6 for orifice and .99 for Venturi

 

A = Area (orifice or Throat)

ohk.! Got your point sir. Thank you so much, and sir if we neglect the friction ,that is the ideal case then we wont consider the discharge coefficient , am i right?.!

Without the C cefficient ,it's  just the application of  Bernoulli and Continuity equations .

 

many factors are included in the C coefficient , not only friction , turbulence ,. ....
