Hello,

I am designing an API 650 Storage tank with N2 blanketing. The vapor pressure of the content is fairly low, around 0.4 psia at average amb. temperature. I set the design pressure of the tank at 5.5 inch H2O/-2 inch H2O. I want to know what are the good values for the PVSV set pressure and PCV set pressure.

(1) I set the PVSV pressure at 2.5 inch H2O / - 1 inch H2O. Are these values too conservative?

(2) I set the PCV pressure at 1 inch H2O / 1 1/2 inch H2O. Can the PCV work with these setting values?

This is the first time for me to design a tank. Would you please give me some advice on these questions?

Best regards,

Leo

Leo,

It was better you did post your query in "Tank Venting Forum"...

Anyway, at a glance looks like there would be no problem for your setting, but you should consider the following points in your setting:

1) The setting to be done such that there would be no interference between PCV and PVRV operation. It would be done by considering adequate "dead band" between set points.

2) "Lock up" pressure and "Overshoot" for PCV should be got from the relevant vendor and to be considered in margin and dead band adjustment between each two adjacent set points.

3) "Overpressure" and "Undervacuum" values of PVRV should be got from the relevant vendor and to be considered in margin and dead band adjustment too.

4) If Emenjency Vent is needed to be considered, its set pressure should be adjusted such that there would be no interference with PVRV operation and also its overpressure value should be such that there would be no passing the tank design pressure during full open position...

Fallah,

Thank you very much four your inputs. I will keep these settings and add a note to be confirmed by tank vendor.

Best regards,
Leo
