Who anyone have experience in this calculation before?

Could you guide me the concept for calculation Restrict Orifice and Steam traps capacity sizing?

-How to estimate or calculation steam capacity of steam trap

-How to determine pressure drop across steam trap?

-How to determine pressure drop across orifice?

-How to define upstream pressure inlet to orifice and how to define downstream pressure outlet orifice require?

Please upload the full picture of the system.

 

  1. Is that steam trap on the dirt pocket line?
  2. Line size?
  3. Not sure why do you have orifice plate at the downstream of a steam trap. What is the purpose? What is there on the downstream of orifice? Drain?

 It 's for line High pressure Drain System and Blow Down Tank Steam trap. for main line HP Steam size DN200

and branch line to steam trap is DN25.

Please refer to following source. Good sizing info on steam trap sizing for a drip leg [dirt pocket] is given – see page marked as CG-17.

It seems you need to consider % carry over. This document considers 10% carry over & a safety factor of 1.5.

 

Still I am not sure, why you have orifice after steam trap.

Input from other members would be useful?

I do not believe a 1" drip leg will be sufficient for a 8" header.  A general rule is that the drip leg diameter should be equal to the header, up to 6"so that way it can collect all necessary condensate.  This rule is based off the velocity of condensate "skipping" over the drip leg (analogous to driving fast over a pothole vs. driving slowly into one - you go deep into the pothole when you drive slower).

This is sketch from P&ID client and i few confuse As i understand orifice should be locate at upstream of stream trap so that can be limite the flow and pressure before steam trap right?

Agree, ROP on steam trap downstream side doesn't seem logical at all as I believe that will hinder the function of stream trap.

Also why would you need it on upstream side too as you want to get rid of all condensate for all good reasons (efficient heat transfer at process side, avoid water hammering etc) unless you have have specific requirement or stream trap has limitation.

Input from more experienced members would be useful here!!
