Good morning,
In the water indistry it is common to instal a VJ coupling to allow fit up to valves for removal or installation.

Im now designing a valve chamber arrangement where the pressures are over 40 bar and for sour service where mechanical couplings are not approved.

What is the normal method of installing large gate valves in this instance where large pipes need to be pulled back to allow a gasket to be replaced / installed?
I cannot imagine a 16" or 24" pipe wanting to move much to do this and would take considerable force to do so.

John,

 

Spacer ring plates are installed allowing easy pull back of the valve for removal and replacement of gaskets. The oil and gas industry commonly uses spacer ring plates in large sized valve installation to facilitate maintenance in terms of valve and / or gasket removal.
