Hi

As long as my understanding, the Packed Column used for Distillation and Absorption have the same function i.e. to provide intimate contact between two phases so that the mass transfer is enhanced and for this packings are used.

The only difference is in the process, Distillation uses difference in Boiling point to Removal more volatile component from less volatile component by contacting Liquid and Vapor Phase. While in Absorption we ue the difference in solubility OF Liquids in the gas for separation.

Hope this Helps.

Regards,
Ali
