Does any one know how to help me with this issue, I have the following consecutive unimolecular first order reaction for a constant volume batch reactor:

A --->B---->C

And I know that the rate constant for each reaction step k1 and k2

I need to find tmax which is the time needed to reach maximum concentration of B.

Usually I would use:

tmax= 1/klog mean= [ln (k2/k1)] /[ k2 - k1]

How ever in this situation k1=k2 making the above equation unsuitable.

Thank you for the reply and the lecture slides but I'm not sure it has answered my question, I have already consulted my course lecture notes and well as reading through Chemical Reaction Engineering, 3rd Ed. by Octave Levenspiel (Pg 41- 55) . Perry's Chemical engineering Handbook as well as other online resources available to me.

I thought this forum was a place to seek advice from experienced professional chemical engineers and associated professionals, I'm sorry if I have offended you!

If anyone else wishes to help me I will be grateful!
