I'm working in design for CDU and VDU.

Is there any guide for steam consumption for fired heaters?

Such as velocity steam to coils, emergency steam to coils and snuffing steam.

How can we decide steam pressure, temperature and flow rate for CDU and VDU heaters?

Thank you.

1. The burner manufacturer must have provided you with the data for amount of steam required for automisation in his burner curves.

Typically 0.3 to 0.4 kg steam per kg of liquid fuel is required for automisation.

2. As far as snuffing steam requirment is concern i will have to check, or you may also check in the schedule "A" package givn by the licensor

Snuffing steam rate can be estimated considering furnace volumetric heat release of 5000 Btu/hr-ft3.

Furnace heat duty divided by volumetric heat release rate will give you fire box volume.

This fire box volume needs to have 12 changes/hr of steam so multiple volume with 12 will give steam volumetric flow rate.
