Dear Members,

We are supposed to design vent dryer for sulphuric acid storage tank. Since we dont want moist air to enter the tank from free vent, a liquid seal of sulphuric acid is provided on vent line. The tank inbreaths and out breaths through a liquid seal of 25mm sulphuric acid seal.

Now we are required to maintain a constant level of 25mm sulphuric acid in this liquid seal. I have attached a simplified drawing of the liquid seal.

I need advice on the calculation of the outlet vertical line, through which the sulphuric acid goes back to tank. I have assumed flow of 5m3/h as continuous flow.

I need to size the outlet line.

The line will not be liquid filled. Can i use froude no to determine the pipe size. Pl. comment.
