Dear colleagues

Could you tell  me what is the key” interlock system” ? is it lock open or lock close for valve?

as i know for some critical valve that we want to have open position or close positing we use the key interlock

for example for psv line the valve should be” lock open “

if we lock the valve as lock open it means that we have key interlock or key interlock is other safety instead of lock position of the valve

Thanks

mike

Are you talking about Castle key physical interlock system. I have used them in PSV set up where we have 2 PSV's in the same service (standby/operational). Castle key is a physical key that operations own to be able to swap the relief valves so that there is a relief valve inline all the time. this is a fool proof safety system.

I have also seen them in tank loading/offloading arms.

We also follow Blue lock system which pretty much having a controlled lock either for a Lock open or lock closed valve.

Hope this helps !

Hi mike

Key interlock system is usually for ensuring that one of two valve is opened while another is closed. This aim to protect the system from mis-operation in serious system. One example is as Senthil mentioned above. For single valve which we need permanently closed or opened position, CSO, CSC, LO (simple), LC (simple) are sufficient.
