Dear All,

I have a clarification with respect to material selection. It may be common but still I need clarifications. Can anybody tell me as thumb rule upto what pH level can SS316 withstand. Any references and resources which gives an idea about the selection of SS with respect to the pH level of the fluid will be more helpful. I tried searching this but found this with respect to the ppm content of chloride. Any related help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Varun

Hi Varun

Very generally speaking SS doesn't work under acidic conditions. But, the operating temperature also plays an important role here. To get exact data, you may refer to corrosion engineering handbook by Philip Schweitzer or corrosion tables by Sandvik.

Hope this helps.

you should read the book "material selection for corrosion control" by Sohan L Chawla
