Hello every1,

I've performed costing calculations for some heat exchangers based on the equations provided in Analysis, Synthesis and Design of Chemical Processes by Turton,Bailie,Whiting and Shaeiwitz. Those include the costing of some heat exchangers where the pressure in the tube isn't the same as the one in the shell.

I believe that Capcost was built based on the correlations provided in the book I've mentioned earlier, but when I've checked the results of those correlations against capcost, I got some differences.

For example for a kettle reboiler (SS/CS) with an area of 37.65 m^2  where the pressure in the tubes is 5.8 barg and the pressure in the shell is 59.8 barg. The cost obtained by the corrolations is 218,000 $ and from Capcost, it is 280,000 $.

Could you explain the problem for me?

Thanks,

Bal

Ok, now i got it. In capcpst, the default CEPCI is 500. The correlations use a CEPCI of 379.
