Hi all, I am currently in the middle of preparing a process data sheet to level guage for steam generator. I want to give the high and low level values of the gauge for procurement. How to decide the high and low level values? Please help. Regards,

You identify the high and low level values for water in a steam generator by:

  • Identify the type of steam generator you are dealing with.  There are various types of steam generators.  Is it is a waste heat steam generator?  Is it a boiler?  If a boiler, is it water tube type or fire tube type?  It all makes a big difference.
  • You want to protect the tubes (and possibly water drums) if they are subject to flame radiation.
  • You want to insure all the heat transfer area is “wetted”.
  • You must also have an alarm levels for low and high points.  The high level designates a potential for entrained water particles with the produced steam.
  • The low points are to designate a generator shut down or a need for condensate feed.

Your mechanical design will determine the correct locations for each of the levels identified.

Dear Art Montemayor,

Steam generator in my case is waste heat steam generator with hydrocarbon stream (liqd) on tube side and boiler feed water/steam on shell side. As per vendor GA drawing , shell dia is 1146 mm and tube bundle dia is 746 mm. I want to ensure all my heat transfer area is wetted.

Regards,

Why didn't you state this basic information in your initial query?

It would be so simple to reply with quality responses if only quality basic information was given initially.  This method of extracting information from OPs is like pulling teeth.
